Sorry to keep you waiting. The 7 week ultrasound went well. Baby measured to dates, and the heart rate was 136. Everything looked normal, and everything went smoothly, which was awesome- though it was also kind of sad for me to see what a normal 7 week ultrasound should look and behave like, since I never had one that wasn’t a complete nightmare.
Our surrogate has had a few speedbumps with a flu like illness, bad morning sickness, insomnia and another random event involving a rare reaction to stematil and maxalon, so it has been a nerve wracking few weeks. All is well now and our TCM doctor is back in town so she has started seeing him again which will hopefully help with the nausea and insomnia.
When we return from overseas, M will have her first appointment with the obstetrician. Until then, hopefully there will be nothing to report.
My period is due tomorrow, so that will be the end of round 4 for me. 4 to go, so halfway there. Feeling tired and cranky.
It has been a right kerfuffle trying to work out the amounts of each of my meds I will need for holiday, plus organising my doc to write a letter stating my need for each of the ten things I am taking with me, so customs doesn’t either nick any of it, or nick me for bringing it (and the needles) in.
We’ve booked and paid for flights (Emirates via Dubai) and accommodation in East Village for 11 nights and now we are investigating car hire post NYC, to drive up to Montreal and then wend our way back down through New England, spending another night or two in NYC before we fly home. Only 3 weeks to go, and SO much to organise on the home front as well as for the trip, it is a bit overwhelming.
We have had a lot of rain in the last week, which is fabulous and also I need to get on top of the mowing it is creating. I’m hoping for a dry day tomorrow for that purpose. Last week saw the garden receive about 25 man/woman hours of attention, but only about 2 more since last Thursday. With any luck my period won’t cripple me as it did last month (for two whole days) and I can get another 10-15 hrs in before Monday.
Mike and I have spent a bit of time drawing up lists of things to do before the baby comes. It feels weird and surreal, and at the same time quite urgent as there are so many big projects (lockable cupboards to install/laundry shelving to build/stereo cabinet to build/double glazing to install/second tank to install/chook-duck-goose pen to build/orchard to net/trench for extra taps in orchard-chook pen- trufferie/shitloads of mending-sewing/12 rolls of photos to be put in albums). GAH! We have until Easter to get all that done, and no doubt I will find other things I think are important as well. Like find a cleaner. I’m not going to kid myself that I can look after a baby and keep my whole house clean at the same time. I could maybe keep one room clean, but that would be about it.
However. One thing at a time, and the first thing is preparing for the USA trip. At home: Sow seeds/mow/transplant/write list for house sitter/ pruning/fertilising/ironing/filing/housecleaning up to date/back flush coffee machine/clean fish tank/ go to tip. Abroad:Car hire/rough itinerary/book more accommodation/check travel insurance/find somewhere to leave our car while we are away and somewhere to stay overnight when we return.
So. Countdown to New York.
